One way I have found that surprisingly saves me money is shopping online. There are so many sales and coupon codes to be found that you can’t use in the store and often times they ship for free if you meet their requirements.
In the stores when things get to a certain clearance level they often pull them from the shelves. So many times online I have found clothing items for $1-$3 that I could never have found in any store for a price like that, even on a deep clearance sale.
In order to find many of these deals you have to be open to spending a little time online and searching for things sometimes off season just like you would in the store. Look for next years summer items late in the summer, next years winter late in the winter and be willing to store them a season. This can equal big savings.
If you’re someone that has to have a few of this season’s outfits, purchase things that will be adaptable to most any style and save money on at least those items. Typically from year to year things don’t change that much and you can buy most of your items the year ahead and just add a few pieces to make the outfits current.
You can also find a lot of household and electronic items for great deals online but it can take a little time and effort finding the item you are looking for. Then you have to search for a way to make it cheaper. I often search for discount codes for the store I’m shopping in before I make the purchase. If I don’t find anything & the item isn’t affordable to me I decide if it’s a must have or if I could find an acceptable alternative if this item doesn’t come up on sale in a short amount of time. Often times, if I’m not in a hurry, I can save myself some money when they put a sale on the item or, even better, they clearance it and put out a code for free shipping.
Patience can make a big difference in your shopping… online or in the store! Hard for us in the world of instant gratification to grasp this idea, but if you do, you may find you can afford more.
